Read an excerpt from the fifth book in the series:
Things were quiet on Little Elm Road, since Bo the dog had settled down and become a good neighbor.
Gawk was again enjoying himself, floating and surfing through the air.
He looked down and was surprised to see two black snakes. They were racing across the lawn, heading toward papa Blue-Shoes’ potting shed.
“Bert? Nettie? What now?” he called.
The snakes didn’t stop. “Mules!” Bert hissed, not bothering to look up.
“Really big mules!” added Nettie. “They keep us awake, always braying and stomping around.”
“Well, glad to see you’re back.” Gawk replied.
He did a quick barrel roll and headed for Cow Pen Meadows, to check out the mules.
