The New Baby

Read an excerpt from the sixth book in the series:

Wow! Bo thought, Ms. Kitty was right!

He remembered the grey cat sitting on the porch a few months ago.  She had told him, “When a human baby comes, everyone runs around crazy.  They act as if they don’t know what’s going on.  Seriously, you’d think they would figure it out by now.”

Bo became his mistress’s faithful shadow.  He was laying on the floor by her feet when she suddenly gasped and sat straight up on the sofa. “TRENT!  The baby’s coming!  Right now!”

Bo perked his ears and watched curiously.  At once there was a mad flurry of everyone yelling.  “Slow down!. Hurry up!  Breathe!  Where’s the car keys?  Don’t forget my suitcase!”

With all that yelling, Bo got scared and ran outside to his doghouse.  He peeked out when he heard the front door slam.  The car was tearing off down the driveway.

It was headed to somewhere called Hospital.   Bo was glad Ms. Kitty had explained that Hospital was where humans had to go for their babies to be born.

He eyed his water bowl, then crept out for a drink.  He noticed his food dish held only a few pieces of dog food.  He quickly ate them.

The day passed.  The car did not reappear.  Bo’s stomach gave a loud rumble.  He sighed and laid down on the front porch to wait.  Soon the light buzz of a snoring dog mingled with the usual late afternoon sounds on Little Elm Road.
